Lending a Hand in Our Own Backyard

By Jacqueline Bond, February 11, 2015

On February 7, Burness teamed up with the Capital Area Food Bank (CAFB) to deliver fresh produce to a DC neighborhood with high rates of food insecurity through its Community Marketplace program. It was a great opportunity for us to come together outside of the office and give back to our own community.

After building a mobile marketplace, we worked with the CAFB to pass out fresh, seasonal fruits and vegetables at no cost to families and individuals in the DC metro area. At the Marketplace, health, housing, and other service providers are on site as resources. CAFB even provides cooking demonstrations to offer inspiration for easy-to-prepare, nutritional meals.

From building a mobile marketplace, to passing out healthy food and hearing from people in the community, we were humbled by the experience of working with CAFB and connecting with the residents they serve.

As a company, we want to emulate what we encourage Americans to do every day: support the health and wellness of communities by taking action.
