For a Boost to Your Health, Vote on Election Day!
By Mary Darby, November 8, 2016
Burnessers are pumped for Election Day!
Feeling depressed, angry, or anxious about the state of politics in the US of A? Many people are. But there is something you can do to make yourself feel better: Get out and vote!
Not because it’s your civic duty (that’s another reason). But because voting is good for you. Yes, voting is good for your health—there’s even research to back it up.
Voting is an act of self-empowerment that has positive effects on your mental health, which, in turn may even benefit your physical health. It won’t cure your cold or give you an endorphin rush, but it can reduce your stress, increase your sense of connectedness with your community, and help you feel more positive about the future.
So shake off those blues and get yourself over to the polls. Who knows? Maybe you’ll finally get rid of that headache.
