Initiative Recognizes Businesses Committed to Giving at Least Two Percent of Operating Income Back to Community.

Bethesda, MD (February 27, 2013) — Burness Communications today announced its acceptance into Community Profits Montgomery, a program that promotes companies that give back to the community and inspire others to do the same.

The initiative, spearheaded by Bethesda Magazine and C. Fox Communications, in collaboration with the Community Foundation for Montgomery County, stems from a simple idea: to create a platform that recognizes local businesses for giving back to the community, inspiring them to continue their good work—and encourage others to do the same.

Burness Communications was among the first 15 companies to be accepted into the initiative. It will be featured alongside other members in a full-page ad in the next issue of Bethesda Magazine. Bethesda Magazine will run a full-page ad in every issue highlighting Community Profits Montgomery members.

“Montgomery County is home to so many remarkable and innovative businesses that are not only helping to shape and fuel our regional economy, but that share a commitment to philanthropic giving right here at home—a powerful statement about the strength and kindness of our community,” said Steve Hull and Carrie Fox, co-founders of Community Profits Montgomery. “Now, finally, a platform exists to recognize those collective good works.”

“Burness feels a responsibility to give back to its community,” said Andy Burness, founding president of the 60-person firm that has been collaborating with nonprofits and operating out of Bethesda for over a quarter century. “There’s no reason why so many people here in this county—one of the wealthiest in the United States—should have to worry about living in or near poverty. We can do better. For our part, we’ll be looking into the problem of food insecurity in the county, and what we might do with other local businesses to make an impact.”
