Luisa Guaracao
Coordinator, Program Administrator for The Frank Karel Fellowship
Luisa joined Burness in May 2017, starting as an intern and hired full-time as a coordinator in January 2018. Half of Luisa’s time is spent managing the Karel Fellowship in Public Interest Communications, an eight-week summer program that matches first-generation and/or minority college students with leading nonprofits in the greater Washington D.C., area. A former Karel Fellow herself, Luisa participated in the program in 2016 and was matched with the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights.
The other half of Luisa’s time is spent doing communications work for public health organizations such as Voices for Healthy Kids, the Center for Sharing Public Health Services and ChangeLab Solutions. She helps with research, list development, project management, media pitching, and event planning, among other things.
Luisa graduated from the University of Florida with a dual degree in public relations and Portuguese.
As a Florida native, Luisa enjoys spending her spare time outdoors whether its running, hiking or just basking in the sun.
