Adam Zimmerman
Vice President
Adam Zimmerman, vice president, joined Burness in 2011 and has more than 15 years of public policy and media relations experience. He provides strategic communications support across several policy initiatives for the American Heart Association, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and Bloomberg Philanthropies. Major areas of focus include tobacco control policies, sugary drink taxes, and school meals programs.
Adam previously worked as a campaign staffer and legislative aide for Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY), the current Senate Minority Leader. He also served as a lobbyist for NARAL Pro-Choice America and the American Association of University Women.
Adam currently lives in Rockville, Maryland, where he successfully secured passage of a landmark smoke-free outdoor dining law and the expansion of smoke-free air protections to more than 80 city parks, recreation centers, and city-owned facilities. He has written op-eds for the Washington Post, Baltimore Sun, and New York Daily News. He also teaches a seventh grade class on the Holocaust and volunteers as a youth soccer coach.
A New York native, Adam graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Stony Brook University, where he majored in history and minored in political science. He and his wife, Julia, have two wonderful children, Ella and Aiden.
