Julie Mankowski
Communications Coordinator, Public Policy
Julie joined Burness in March 2016 to work on a wide variety of topics ranging from social-emotional learning to childhood obesity to Cuban health initiatives. She assists various teams with research, policymaker outreach, and comprehensive communications support. Some projects she works with include the VCU Life Expectancy Maps, County Health Rankings and Roadmaps and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Healthy Children, Healthy Weight.
In 2015, Julie graduated magna cum laude from the George Washington University with a B.A. in Political Communications. She worked for U.S. Senator Barbara Mikulski, researching social and economic issues for the Legislative Director. She also volunteered with AAUW’s Lobby Corps advocating for health, education, and women’s issues. In the time between graduating from GW and working at Burness, Julie worked on a six-month project in Auckland, New Zealand, for a nonprofit start-up called The Learning Collaborative. There, she helped develop systems to mentor students in academic and emotional skills and to train the college-aged students who mentored them.
Julie was born and raised in Maryland, but is a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Outside of work, Julie loves spending time with family (including her 9 lbs miniature dachshund, Chip), traveling, and watching football, hockey, and lacrosse.
