Last week, Burness joined Playworks D.C. in their Fifth Annual Corporate Kickball Tournament, a fundraiser supporting local schools. Playworks is a national organization using the power of play to equip children with the social and emotional skills needed to succeed in life. In D.C., Playworks is working in 18 low-income schools and provides a safe and inclusive recess to 7,300 kids every day.
A team of 15 Burnessers enjoyed an afternoon full of team building, recess games and high-fives. While our team didn’t win the Golden Kickball, we came away with a new company cheer (thanks to Coach Mo, a Playworks AmeriCorps coach at Tyler Elementary in Ward 6) and witnessed first-hand how play can be a real teaching opportunity. Additionally, we raised nearly $3,000 to help our local community.
