Retaking the Field
In the United States, agricultural production has leveled off and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s research budget has been mostly flat for decades. And yet, despite scarce funding, U.S. scientists have made some astonishing breakthroughs in the food and agricultural sciences.
This was the central point of a report that the Supporters of Agricultural Research (SoAR) Foundation partnered with Burness to produce. The publication featured full-page profiles of scientists from 13 universities, along with their publicly funded research. With an image-heavy, text-light approach, the design and content quickly made this a popular summer read for the agriculture policy community in Washington DC and also inspired coverage in National Geographic’s online portal, “The Plate,” as well as a feature story in the Washington Post.
